I'm back, I'm back. Sorry for being MIA for a really really long time. But I'm back, especially since it's easter HOLIDAYS!! whoots! Today is Student Free Day, tomorrow's Good Friday. So I've got 2.5 weeks of term holidays! whoohoo!
School had been really busy for the past weeks. The amount of school work I get can be summed up with these words: I don't have much homework, but yet I've got so much work! Sounds contradictory or paradoxical? It makes perfect sense.
Firstly, much of the homework, especially the math homework, is not marked by my teachers. They will give us homework AND the answers. So it's really up to us whether we want to do the homework or not. If we do, then good for us. If we don't, then good luck to us (not that I really believe in luck, anyway). So it's totally up to us to do the work and to study. Secondly, compared to back home in Singapore, the amount of homework they give us over here is much less. Basically only Applicable Math and Calculus give a steady flow of homework. I hardly, though not never, get homework in my other classes. You might think, well then I have lots of time to rest & relax then. Think again! I get assignments that require much research and thought. Plus, some of them run concurrently. So I really need to plan my time in order to complete all the assignments by the deadline. I realise that I have been spending a lot of time of school work than I did back home in Singapore! That's really quite remarkable, since I was not a lazy student back home. So I haven't had much time to be online on MSN, to watch TV (except swimming) or to surf the net because I had to study and had to also complete assignments. These assignments are very important because they contribute to my final mark!
This brings to me my next point. Studying in Perth isn't as easy as most people back home make it out to be. Because, first and foremost, studying is never easy. Who says studying is easy? It requires a lot of effort, time, energy, thought etc. It's never easy. And of course, it is also never easy to do well in tests and assignments, especially when we have multiple tests on the same day. I'm not saying that it's impossible, it's just that it really requires time and effort, be it in Singapore or in Perth.
But I enjoy college here. Though school is long, tiring and hectic, but I don't really mind going to school. Why of course, I'm not complaining about my 2.5 weeks of term break! *grins*
Here's a rough break down of what I've been up to for the past week fews.
Things I Did:
1. Went to Impact World Tour - Hip Hop(this was many weeks ago). Quite fun. Lots of salvations.
2. Found the best cd & dvd place in Perth. I bought John Mayer's Any Given Thursday (AUD11.45), Jason Mraz's Tonight Not Again/Live at Eagles Ballroom (AUD 8.99) and James Taylor's dvd (for my dad). How coincidental - all "J"s. haha.
3. Watched FINA world swimming championships on TV. It was held in Melbourne so they telecast it here. Libby Lenton & Michael Phelps are great! I guess it's cause I can't swim, that's why I like to watch people swim cause they swim so fast and make it seem so easy! But, no thanks, I'm not gonna learn swimming anytime soon.
Talking about sports, I just found out that Perth TV is broadcasting the Champions League and UEFA cups matches on free channels. Of course, at ungodly hours.
4. Wrote ELACS report on Ecotourism. I though I got rid of geography (human and physical) and history for good, but they're coming back to haunt me, in the form of ELACS! But not that I mind human geography. That's why I chose to do my report on Ecotourism!
5. Took Physics and Chemistry tests and Applicable Math AND Calculus Term 1 exams on Monday. FOUR tests/exams in ONE day! Woah! I spent the entire weekend mugging for those. It was tiring. Plus, I had Physics, Chemistry and Calculus during the 1st 3 periods on Monday. So after Calculus, I was super tiring and hungry.
6. Found out that the 'Firebird' series on fictionpress has been discontinued! Ah! By the way, my extremely long blogname is closely linked to 'Firebird'. So it's really sad that the author decided not to continue with North Star, Circle, Heartstrings etc. So Artem and Crew are never gonna return!! Oh well...
Things I Didn't Do:
1. Go to Freo for Blues & Roots Festival, i.e. DIDN'T get to watch John Mayer live on April Fools Day. How disappointing! Just because I am a year under 18 years. I shall just leave it as this cause I think I've ranted about it long enough. It's over, so no point ranting about my disappointment. I guess I'll just have to wait. I heard he was really good at the festival.
2. Talk with Esther (my 'younger' sister) during Calculus. At least NOT as much as Chris (our teacher) thinks. Last week, he kinda asked us to not talk too much. I felt so disgruntled!! I mean, we were only talking quite quietly when we were doing our work and NOT when he was teaching! Jam & I used to talk, argue and even sing during Mr. Ling's math lessons, but he never once said anything, because we ALWAYS did our work. Plus, I'd like to think that I do math sums reasonable quickly, so even as I talk, I also do my work fast as well. Furthermore, Esther and I do NOT speak the most or the loudest. Jung, Frankie, John (they do get singled out by Chris. quite funny, really at times. Frankie turned around to speak to John, without noticing that Chris was standing right beside him until Chris pinched his neck!), Boo and Erlyna speak WAY MORE and WAY LOUDER! But he never once picked on Boo or Erlyna, although, trust me, they speak a lot MORE and a lot LOUDER than Esther and I. So I came up with a theory: Chris can hear noise from gals, but can only see Esther and I since Boo and Erlyna can 'strategically' situated behind John and Jung and hence are blocked by them. So Chris assumes that Esther and I are the ones making the noise, when in actual fact, we're NOT! It irks me when Boo and Erlyna laugh and talk so loudly but can 'get away with it'. So Esther and I have decided to keep as quiet as we possible can doing Calculus and do our work as fast as humanly possible just to prove our point! muahahahhaa
3. Shave my hair. My college's student council organized "The World's Greatest Shave" thingy during lunch last monday. People were shaving other people's hair while we were eating! gross...
3. Watch Prison Break. No time.
4. Blog! hahaha
Things I Shouldn't Have Done:
1. Spoke fast for ELACS. Some people seem to think that I speak fast for my presentations. Some people don't. Either way, I am sometimes called 'machine gun' in my ELACS class. Just because I speak faster, doesn't mean I speak fast what...
2. Agreed to have my picture taken at the library. My friend and I weren't even looking library books. We were just looking through our notes at the library. Then suddenly this lady asked to have our picture taken. Could we say no? So we randomly took a library book, and pretended to look at it. I was trying very hard to hold in my laughter. Next thing I knew, our picture appeared on the homepage of my college's StudentNet website. It's the first thing you see, when you use Internet Explorer on my school's computers. So malu & embarrassing! My friends and classmates teased me and say stuff like, "Woah! You're a superstar liao. Can you give me your autograph? Can I take a picture of you and paste it on my wall?" I just *rolled eyes*. And I resorted to saying, "Are you sure that's me? No la, it's just my evil twin!" Thank goodness that all these have died down!
That's about it for today. I'll blog sometime later. Happy Easter!
