Australian Idol

Australian Idol Season 5 started to air on TV last week. So I get my annual dose of Idol-fever! Haha! Since I missed out on American Idol Season 6 (? or 5? 7? Can't remember. lol).

It's really awesome! Some of the talents on this show are really really AMAAAAZING (to quote Mr. Loh)!!

I don't remember many people going into American or Singapore Idol auditions, singing original compositions. But here on Aussie Idol, they were SO MANY talented young people singing songs they wrote themselves while playing guitar or piano. There were ALOT of such singers/songwriters/musicians.

I guess it's the culture here which allows people to explore their creative side freely. You can find many buskers along the roads in the shopping area in the city. Some of them are really good. If I'm not wrote, they do not have to get a permit or something to perform on the streets. So here you can find a few high school blokes jamming together, or a young child on the violin or flute.

Back to Aussie Idol.

Last week, I saw the trailer for this week's Idol episodes. I saw about 2 seconds of this particular guy singing Stevie Wonder's "Superstitious". And I though to meself, "Hm... I wanna watch that!" So I waited all through last Sunday's and the Monday's episodes for this particular audition. Along the way I heard some pretty good singers. Here's a list of some of the people who got through the auditions who I though were good and/or memorable.

1. Natalie Gauchi. She played the keyboard while singing an original song. She reminds me a lot of Stacie Orrico. So she's the gal I'm rooting for.

2. Jordan Paris. He's werid, in a good way. He wore this bright red suit. He's funny and the judges seem to like him. Plus he's the 1st person I've heard who sang a hymn (apart from the perenniel favourite "Amazing Grace") during the auditions - "Here I Am Lord".

3. Benjamin McKenzie. He sang John Mayer's "Daughters". Fullstop. Need I say more? Lolx

4. Lyall Adonis. He sang an original song while accompanying himself on the guitar. He has a great voice. So natural!

5. Matt Corby. He was the one who sang Stevie Wonder's "Superstitious" (as mentioned earlier). He's the reason why Esther and I went HIGH (and are still HIGH) yesterday night and this morning.

The TV producers really did save the best for the last. Matt's audition was aired last of all auditions for this season. Can't believe he's only 16 (my age!)! Gosh, it's so crazy, these people are all so young and can do unbelievable things!

Right after his audition, Esther and I both wanted to call each other immediately to go HIGH (coz we always go HIGH together! haha), but I tried (very hard) to wait till after the teaser for next week's episodes ended. THEN I called her and we went high!! HAHA!

We went (separately) to the Aussie Idol website to see if his video has been uploaded yet. But when we 1st accessed the page, it wasn't there. THEN finally it appeared! We were so exicited! Today, we showed the video to our friends, and they loved it too!! We all still couldn't believe that he's 16 only. Haha!

We're spreading the word! Why keep it to ourselves?

A quick search on myspace reveals that he was in a Christian band called "Iron+Clay". Another BIG plus! So we're rooting for him to win! Psst, I heard that he got into top 24 (although it can only be confirmed next week during the airing of Aussie Idol). Can't wait!

It's amazing how fast fansites are created. Juz found a few Matt Corby fansite myspace accounts! They weren't there just yesterday!

Esther and I have agreed that, to quote Esther's words: "We shall marry husbands who can sing AND play the guitar. Notice it's AND, as opposed to OR." Hopefully we won't be fighting over the same guy! HAHA. Nah, that won't happen. We made a pact to not allow it to happen. Friendship first, b4 BGR.
